Every flower is unique, as is every work of art. Far Out Gallery invites all to exhibit their art of flowers throughout the next two months. One entry per person. The show will be hung salon style in the order received.
Work may be delivered during regular hours: Friday, Saturday, Sunday 12-6pm. We want to share your art and fill the gallery with a vast variety of artists’ flowers. Artists may choose to sell or not. FOG will receive a 30% commission on all art sold.

Starr and friends organized a tribute parade to celebrate Lawrence Ferlinghetti on his birthday. It was a blast. The Green Street Marching Band led us down Columbus. Afterwards, we gathered at Cafe Trieste where poetry was recited. Peter recited the poem Dog.

On Sunday, March 20, FOG celebrated the first day of Spring. We sang songs to welcome the new season. Everyone who came to the gallery during the weekend took home a bouquet of flowers.

Lots of good neighborly fun at Anne's opening. A lovely group of mostly Fog regulars were enchanted with Anne’s vivid story of bones and ocean. Our longtime friend Shanta enhanced the gathering with her fabulous apple muffins and delicious chai. The party went all backroom with a spirited group enjoying each other and FOG, some music, and a little vino. Another totally gratifying display of how vital Far Out Gallery has become to our neighborhood.

The opening reception for Anne’s Currents had that positive vibe and art energy that was the norm in pre-COVID times. There was a really stunning sense of appreciation and just getting back into the richness of our community. It proved to be an excellent gathering of the FOG family–and five paintings went to new homes (six if we add the Green Bird that flew away Friday).
Our opening celebration included 2 women on crutches (hi there, Carol and Anne!) and one with a walker (our pal Lucy). We wish all a speedy healing. It was a truly splendid day of celebration of the arts and Anne’s new beauties.

I was sitting behind the FOG desk when two figures walked in. The gentleman had a fairly large pack on his back. I actually thought it was a tent and asked them to set it up - I had no idea who they were or what they were doing. It turns out that Zach, who lives in the neighborhood, had previously been in and had bought Ocean Beach Stone #2, one of Anne’s OB stone paintings. He gave it to Karen.
It turns out they are both extraordinary musicians and had told Anne that they would come back and give her and FOG a concert to help celebrate FOG’s 6th anniversary. So I was flabbergasted when Karen went to the piano and Zach took out his TUBA and they proceeded to fill the gallery with the most wondrous sounds. They played Bach and some originals and some funky popular tunes and some Klezmer and were mesmerizing. The acoustics chez FOG are fabulous, and they played it to the max. It was so danceable and infectious (in the good way) that I wished it would never end. Alas it did, and we bid farewell with the promise of more to come. So if you ever hear transcendent tuba and piano music while strolling Taraval, you can thank Karen and Zach. -Peter

This exhibition features my recent watercolors. I was inspired to try this medium by FOG's Watercolors show. I enjoy artistic challenges and this medium presented one. I spent the last four months working only with watercolor– a diversion from over forty years of oil painting. Gone was the control I relied on with oils. Watercolors run, the colors dry differently and there is minimum covering up. But this medium gives me qualities I love: transparency, luminosity, lightness. The white of the paper becomes a color and what’s left blank is activated. I enjoy seeing the brush strokes, pools of paint and layers of color. Now I welcome less control and allow the medium to direct the painting. Watercolor has opened a new world for me. - Anne Herbst

Don Williams started his Artists’ Talk with his realistic alley and landscape paintings reminiscent of the midwest and Nebraska where he is from. An observation from the audience mentioned a pole in each landscape. Don responded that an early art instructor said the pole connects the ground to the sky, words he’s never forgotton.

Artists’ Talk at 2pm
Andy Forrest’s plein air demo was mesmerizing. In a brilliant arrangement, he did a south view from the Great Walkway, and another view looking north.
He started his work outside, including taking photos, then moved inside to show us his setup and how he worked. Often when he isn’t able to finish his work outside, he’ll continue it in his studio.
Below are the two pieces he started today––he considers them 85% finished.
